Group leader:Wuxiang Guan, Ph.D., Professor of Wuhan Institute of Virology, CAS. Dr Guan obtained his BSc of Clinical Medicine in 2000, MSc of Virology in 2003 from Tongji Medical University. His Ph.D. was awarded by Institute of Viral Disease Control and Prevention, Chinese CDC in 2006. Dr Guan did research in University of Kansas Medical Center (2007-2009), in Stowers Institute of Medical Research (2010-2012) before joining Wuhan Institute of Virology in June 2012. His research interest focuses not only on understanding the mechanism of DNA replication of virus, but also the 3’ end biogenesis of RNA with molecular biology and biochemistry methods. In the past 5 years, Dr Guan has published 5 papers on JVI and JBC as first author. As a candidate of the “Hundred-Talent Program” of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Dr. Guan’s ongoing project has also been funded by NSFC.

RNA, which has become one of the hottest research interest in modern biology, not only contains genetic information, but also  plays important function of gene expression regulation and enzyme activity. Because of its simple structure and compact genome, virus is the one of the best research models for RNA biology. Our group is devoted to understand the mechanism of vrial genome replication, RNA transcriptional and posttranscriptional regulation of viral infection, function and biogenesis of noncoding RNA encoded by virus and its host during infection by classical molecular biology and biochemistry methods. These researches help us to illustrate the gene expression regulation mechanism and provides  new insights to virus control, prevention and treatment.
